Universal apparently signed Tony Gilroy to work on 4th script:

They're gonna do the Bourne Legacy by nook or by crook. For me that's great news, cause I want a 4th movie desperately, and I think that a screenwriter who understands the story, the characters and the universe, is indispensible. They can make do without Greengrass, or even Damon, but the screenwriter who penned 3 brilliant stories, is a must.

But...Matt Damon IS Jason Bourne. It's not set up like the James Bond franchise, where actor changes are done with a wink and a nod. Anyway, I can't be optimistic about Bourne 4 simply because this just screams of milking the cash cow. That's it. That's the entire motivation. I mean, where the first three were at least following the trilogy footsteps of the book series, this 4th one (remarkably like the Lustbader books) literally has no other reason to exist.

I agree that this is being done purely for cash (the 2nd and 3rd were as well, tbh), and it has a nontrivial chance of turning out shit, but what i can say? I freaking love these movies, and I desperately want more of the same. I'm weak.

I don't value the actors to the same extent, they're just tools in the end, and replaceable. Don't get me wrong Damon is a great actor, and he was great as Bourne, but I don't think he's be-all-end-all of this franchise. It's not like some exceptional acting abilities are required to play JB, but Greengrass, the author of a story, is indispensible, he (or his scripts) is the backbone, and I'm glad that he seems to be back. Just my opinion.

Gilroy, not Greengrass *headdesk*

Honestly, I don't think Damon can be replaced. Greengrass, yes, although with difficulty...Damon? In my eyes, there is no other Bourne. Unfortunately, Damon won't do it without Greengrass. On the other hand, I remember Damon saying that Greengrass would probably change his mind if the right script came along. *fingers crossed*

I'm sure they were saying the same about Connery, back in the day: "There can't be no other Bond". I think any actor can be replaces, if they do it in a smart way, but I realize that I'm in minority.

And Gilroy on board pretty much means that Greengrass won't be returning - they really don't like each other, from what the press is saying

I agree and cross my fingers, too. Anyway I don't think Demon can be replaced. I hope they don't make that mistake. :)

I don't know. No Matt Damon, no ticket from me. As far as I'm concerned, Matt Damon is Jason Bourne. I'm not interested in seeing anyone but Damon in the role.
